We tasted several wines starting with the following white wines, Vernaccia Cesani and Vernaccia Sanice. We liked both of these. We then moved onto a Rose, not a favorite for any of us. The reds started with the Chianti Collo Senesi, then the Rosso Toscano Serise. followed by Cellori and Luenzo. I think most of us liked the Luenzo red the best. We also learned about how olive oil is made and also about how saffron is gathered and what part of the flower actually yields the saffron.
I don't want anyone to be shocked, but we ended up shipping a couple cases back home. Mine should be back in time to celebrate my actual 50th birthday, if I can pry it away from Dana as we are having everything shipped to her place. I think I may be able to find a person or two to help me enjoy them.
Afterwards we went to San Gimignano for some additional shopping. WARNING: Shopping after drinking wine leads to spending excessive amounts of money on things you have had no issues walking away from all week long. One of us bought an additional piece of luggage to be able to bring everything home and we still have to go to Rome where there is bound to be even more shopping.
Tonights dinner was at Le Vecchie Mura in San Gimignano. The Parkers Villa representative was out at our villa this morning and called and made us a reserveration at this restaurant. There may be a story associated with why the representative was at our villa, but I will leave that story to be told in person to those who really want to get the inside scoop. The food was good and the view was incredible.
The picture below is of Elsa, the little girl who was next to us at dinner with her family. She is just too cute to not add to the blog.
A couple from Miami were sitting on the other side of us. After we had been seated for a few minutes the man looked over to us and said, "Weren't you all in Siena yesterday?" Busted. Even with the thousands of people that were wandering around in Siena, this guy remembers our group. Why yes, we are all that and a bag of chips.
We've received some requests to add even more pictures, so here are a few more pictures from San Gimignano that were taken this evening.
Before leaving San Gimignano, for what will most likely the last time, we stopped at one of the gelato places, because well it's gelato and it is sooo good.
We headed back to the villa for our nightly back massages. Katie and Gabbi stopped by from next door and we just hung out for a while and chatted and checked out what our super shopper had bought.
Guess what? Even a week later, we all still like each other.
Ciao for now!
