The Adventure Begins

It was 7:45 AM and we were all at the airport, ready to go.  One of us (yes that would be me) decided to just drop their bag at the curb side check-in and then waited for the others to slowly wind their way through the labyrinth of the check-in lines.  There may have been some trepidation on the minds of some that my bag wouldn't show up in Italy, but show up it did.

Then it was off to the security, where yet another one of us was "special", this time it was Dana.   After scanning her bag twice, trace elements of explosives still remained and she was then dragged off to the side room to have everything dumped from her bag and get patted down.  Apparently these false positives were caused by the hand lotion she was wearing.  Sure, they were...  Thankfully they let her come along with us anyway.

Next stop, Caribou!  Uneventful, just delicious.  So off to the boarding gate we went.  This would be the first place where we annoyed others with our antics and had a nice older gentelmen take the first of what I am sure will be many group pictures.

After a 90 minute delay, they finally let everyone board the plane and it didn't take long for most of the people around us to know where we were going and what we were celebrating.  The flight crew found us humorous and provided us all with complimentary beverages.  First flight, although delayed, was a success.  We landed in JFK with plenty of time to have a quick bite to eat and head over to the departure gate.  We boarded the flight on time, but were then told we didn't have a captain to pilot the plane. There may have been a few thoughts of piloting ourselves, but that was a big ole plane. So we just hung out and about 60 minutes later the pilot was on board and we were slowly pulling away to begin the second part of this adventure.

We were hunkered down for the long flight.  Kim and I had a couple of flight attendants in front of us who were going to be covering a different flight out of Rome once they got there, it turned out to be a very good thing as a couple hours into the flight a lady passed out while standing up in the aisle in front of us.  The off duty flight attendant grabbed her before she could hit the floor.  Turns out, someone had a bit too much wine and hadn't eaten, and down she went.

We landed at about 9:00 Saturday morning in Rome and off we went to tackle the rental car fiasco... More about that in the next post.

Caio for now!
