This morning Heidi successfully navigated us to the Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara park, where we met up with our tour guide, Diogo.
The final tasting at this stop was a sausage. Diogo made us guess what meat it was made from. Mary was the winner. It was made of chicken and a garlic paste. The texture was a bit odd, but the taste was okay. The back story to this sausage is that the Jewish community came up with this recipe to hide the fact that they were Jewish during the Spanish Inquisition, by making it seem that they were eating pork.
Speaking of pork, the second stop was a pork sandwich on some very fresh bread with a bit of mustard. It also included a beer tasting. I didn't drink the beer, some of the other girls thought this particular brand had a bit of a sweeter tase. The sandwich itself was good.
The third stop started with bread rolls and goat cheese, then followed by chorizo, beef and cod cakes.
The final tasting at this stop was sardines. Hard no for me and most of the broads.
The fourth stop was for pastel de nada. This is an egg custard tart pastry, good, but super rich tasting. Ours was served with cinnamon and powdered sugar sprinkled over the top.
The final stop was for cherry liquor. Not a hit with this group.
Also saw some cool things as we walked around on the food tour. This is one of 4 funiculars in Lisbon. They will take you down and most importantly up. Sadly, we continued to flipping walk. 😢
